How To Take Care of Your Paintball Goggles

Home/Store/Blog/How To Take Care of Your Paintball Goggles

As any seasoned paintball player knows, keeping your goggles clean and protected is key to staying safe and performing at your best. Here are some tips I’ve picked up over the years to keep my goggles looking and working great:

1. Clean Them After Every Game

  • Lens Cleaning: Always clean the lens right after you’re done playing. I use a microfiber cloth to wipe off any paint or dirt. Trust me, don’t use anything rough like paper towels – those can scratch the lens.
  • Lens Cleaner: If there’s some stubborn paint stuck on, I spray on some lens cleaner made specifically for paintball goggles, then wipe it off with a cloth. Empire Antifog Goggle Cleaner works great!

2. Use Anti-Fog Treatment

  • Anti-Fog Spray or Wipes: There’s nothing worse than foggy goggles in the middle of a match. I always use an anti-fog spray or wipes on the inside of the lens before I head out on the field.
  • Ventilation is Key: Make sure the vents around your goggles are clean. Good airflow helps prevent fogging, so I keep them free of dirt and debris.

3. Store Them Right

  • Protective Case: I make sure to store my goggles in a hard case. It keeps them from getting scratched or damaged while I’m not using them.
  • No Sun Exposure: Don’t leave them out in the sun or hot places. It can warp the lens or mess with the colors. I always keep mine in a cool, dry spot.

4. Handle with Care

  • Don’t Touch the Lens: I try to avoid touching the lens with my fingers since oils and dirt can leave marks. If I do need to handle it, I make sure my hands are clean.
  • Be Gentle with the Frame: The frame can get brittle if it’s exposed to too much heat or sunlight, so I always handle mine gently to avoid cracks.

5. Replace Lenses When Needed

  • Cracked or Scratched Lenses: If I ever notice my lens is cracked or seriously scratched, I swap it out immediately. It’s not worth risking your vision, plus you don’t want a damaged lens getting in the way of your game.
  • Inspect Before Every Match: I always check my goggles before heading out – any signs of wear, and I replace the lens or frame to avoid problems.

6. Check the Strap and Fit

  • Secure Fit: The strap should be snug but not tight. If it’s loose, the goggles can slip, which is no good in the middle of a game. I always adjust it so it fits comfortably.
  • Foam Comfort: If the foam around the goggles starts losing its padding or feels uncomfortable, I replace it to keep it comfy and secure during those long games.

7. Avoid Direct Hits to the Lens

  • Positioning: I try to keep my face out of direct line with paintballs, but if I take a hit to the lens, I make sure to check it afterward. Multiple hits to the same spot can weaken the lens over time.

8. Clean the Foam Regularly

  • Sweat and Dirt Build-Up: The foam around the goggles can soak up sweat and dirt, so I wash it every once in a while with a little soap and water. I make sure it’s dry before putting the goggles back on.

Keeping your goggles clean, properly stored, and in good condition isn’t just about looks – it’s about staying safe and seeing clearly when you need it most. Following these tips has helped me keep mine in great shape for years. You can find an incredible selection of goggles and goggles accessories at www.shopcousins.com
